Black Mesa, in the Warm Springs area of northwestern Arizona, forms the extreme southern end of the Black Mountains and appears as a broad mesa-like section rather than a sharp summit. The entire landform lies within the Warm Springs Wilderness, giving it full protected status. A canyon and road to the north separate it from the Black Hills, while that same canyon’s north side marks the southern edge of the neighboring Mount Nutt Wilderness. Extending about 10 miles north to south and rising roughly 1,000 feet above nearby valleys on three sides, Black Mesa dominates the surrounding desert landscape near Interstate 40 and Yucca.
