This building housed boiler-operated generators that furnished electric power for the No. 30 and 31 mines and their support facilities, and it also supplied electricity to all homes in Lynch. Originally, four 150 KW D.C. generators were installed, but these were quickly replaced by two 1875 KVA, 6600-volt A.C. generators. A cooling tower stood beside Looney Creek, and water was sprayed into a cooling pond in the creek. After power from Kentucky Utilities arrived in 1925, the generators were shut down, and the boilers were used to provide steam heat for shops, the bathhouse, the tipple, other support facilities, and several management homes. The boilers were fed with stoker coal directly from the adjacent tipple. The powerhouse stack is 209 feet high and measures from 14 feet to 9 feet in diameter.
