Beverly Drive-In Theatre in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, opened in 1948 and became a longtime local landmark, eventually standing as the state’s oldest operating drive-in by 2005. Built and originally operated by the Hargroder family, it featured a large main screen, space for 500 vehicles, a neon logo on the back of the screen tower, and even the owners’ home beneath the screen. A second screen was added in 1979. After continuous operation under the original owners ended in 1987, it reopened in 2001 under new management. Hurricane Katrina heavily damaged the property in 2005, preservationists later recognized its significance, and a fire destroyed it in 2010.
