Many twentieth century commercial gins used a separate office building for weighing cotton and keeping records. Each customer's wagon was weighed when entering the gin yard full of cotton and again when leaving empty, and the weight was recorded on a ticket passed through slots in the wall. The difference between the two weights showed the amount of cotton and seed processed in the gin. The office also held farmers' cotton samples after the bales were sent to the warehouse. This office was relocated from the Galliard Gin and donated by the J.P. Brown family, and behind it stands a new building housing equipment from Kinnebrew Gin of Homer, Louisiana.
