Piominko served as a Chickasaw leader from approximately 1783-1799. Prior to being Piominko, his name is believed to have been Tushatohoa. He led the Chickasaws during a pivotal time in their history, protecting their sovereignty through warfare and diplomacy. By signing the Treaty of Hopewell in 1786, he cemented the tribe's alliance with the United States. He also established a personal relationship on behalf of the Chickasaws with President George Washington and received the George Washington Peace Medal for his military service and loyalty to the young United States.
