Reedy Island Range Rear Light is an active skeletal tower lighthouse near Taylor’s Bridge, Delaware, built to guide ships on the Delaware River approach to Philadelphia after early twentieth-century dredging and realignment created a more complex channel south of Reedy Island. As older ranges were shifted and renamed, this route was first marked by temporary lights, including a locomotive headlight on a tall pole shown in 1904. Funding delays postponed the permanent tower until 1908. Originally equipped with a fifth-order Fresnel lens and later an aerobeacon, the station was eventually automated. Still operating, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
