Richmond Plantation near Cordesville, South Carolina, unites a circa 1927 hunting lodge complex with the surviving landscape and archaeological remains of an older rice plantation, preserving multiple layers of lowcountry history. Built for New York financier George A. Ellis as a hunting retreat, the manor house and four matching outbuildings reflect an American version of the Shavian Manor Style linked to Richard Norman Shaw. The property also includes cabins, a log house, a cemetery, and remains from the 18th- and 19th-century plantation economy. Sold to the Low Country Girl Scout Council in 1963, it later became a private property protected by a conservation easement.
