Clinton serves as either the beginning or end of a journey in Katy Trail State Park, whose right of way continues 238 miles to Machens. The Clinton Square, the largest in Missouri and fourth largest in the nation, includes dozens of shops, the courthouse and park with historic fountain, the Katy depot housing the chamber of commerce, and places to eat, with most buildings restored to their early 19th-century appearance. Olde Glory Days is celebrated around the square every Fourth of July. Just west of the square at 203 West Franklin Street, the Henry County Museum occupies the historic Anheuser-Busch building, built in 1886 as a distribution center, and also includes an 1850s homestead and the Adair Annex with an art gallery and an authentic reproduction of a turn-of-the-century village. South of the trailhead at 1004 East Sedalia Street, the Clinton Community Center houses the city's parks and recreation offices and offers activities and facilities including basketball, a fitness center, showers, and a walking track. South and east of town, Harry S. Truman Reservoir offers camping, boating, fishing, and picnicking, while Harry S Truman State Park lies on the lake about 25 miles east on Highway 7, and the Sparrowfoot and Copper Creek recreation areas managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are less than 10 miles south of Clinton. Artesian Park has been a local attraction since the late 1880s, beginning when gas-drilling struck pressurized water and created an artesian well that became the park's nucleus; it later featured a three-story hotel, fairgrounds, a lake, bathhouses, and regular passenger train service, and after the construction of Harry S. Truman Reservoir, it changed, losing the hotel, swimming beaches, and passenger train service, while today it offers a public swimming pool, picnic areas, and other day-use facilities.
