Rock Island Trail State Park
Transportation
Rock Island Trail State Park in Missouri is a 47-mile rail trail for hiking and biking between Windsor and Pleasant Hill, opened on December 10, 2016, on the former Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad right-of-way. As a western spur linking to Katy Trail State Park, it gives the Kansas City region access toward that much longer route. Its railroad origins provide the gentle grades and straight course typical of rails-to-trails projects. State and local efforts have also pursued major extensions east from Windsor and west toward Kansas City, though a gap between the Lee’s Summit-Greenwood area and Pleasant Hill means the full connection remains incomplete.
