General Sterling Price was born in Prince Edward County, Virginia, on September 11, 1809, resided in Chariton County, Missouri, from 1831 to 1865, served as Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Missouri General Assembly from 1840 to 1844, was elected to Congress in 1844, participated in the War with Mexico from 1846 to 1848, rose from the rank of Colonel to that of Brigadier General, was chairman of the Convention of 1861, commanded the Missouri State Troops as a Major General from 1861 to 1862, and died in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 29, 1867.
