Work on the stadium began in 1992 as a minor league team announced it would return to the city for the first time since the Hickory Rebels ended in 1970. L.P. Frans Stadium was named for Pepsi bottler Lee Polk Frans, whose daughters made a large donation to help fund its construction. The rough grading and the new four-lane road that became the park’s primary access point were a gift from the late Clarence Clement, and both the road and the stadium’s address still bear his name in Clement Boulevard. Additional renovations followed the 2013 season, in October 2017, and in September 2019. The stadium seats roughly 4,000 fans and has hosted South Atlantic League finals and All-Star Games.
