Cummins Falls, on the Blackburn Fork River in southern Jackson County, Tennessee, is the state’s eighth largest waterfall by volume and one of Tennessee’s best-known swimming and hiking destinations. Its seventy-five-foot descent comes in two stages: a fifty-foot plunge into a shallow pool, then a twenty-five-foot cascade into a deeper basin known as the swimming hole. The site gained wider national attention in 2010 when Travel + Leisure ranked it the tenth best swimming hole in America. Held by the Cummins family from 1825 into the early twenty-first century, the land became a public park in 2011 and is now managed by Tennessee State Parks, with controlled permit access to the gorge base.
