In 1918, the officers and men of the 6th Machine Gun Battalion, 6th Regiment, and 5th Regiment of the United States Marines gave their lives for their country in the World War, and the work was commissioned and donated by Patrick F. Taylor, Cpl, USMCR, of New Orleans, Lousiana.
