Copper Harbor Light stands at the harbor of Copper Harbor on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Upper Michigan, where it helped guide shipping during the growth of the region’s copper trade. Authorized in 1847, the first tower was built in 1848 and the station established in 1849; a Fresnel lens was added in 1856. That original stone tower was later replaced in 1866 by the brick lighthouse that still survives, along with parts of the first station. Automated in 1919, the light was moved in 1933 to a nearby steel skeleton tower. The site is now recognized for its historic importance and has operated as a public historic site and museum.
