Camp Floyd was established in 1858 by order of President James Buchanan. During its three years of operation, it was the site of the largest assembled troop concentration in the United States prior to the Civil War. No buildings remain in this area from the encampment, but the site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
