In Fairfield’s Cedar Valley, this Utah state park preserves three nearby historic sites tied to military, transportation, and community history: remnants of Camp Floyd, the Stagecoach Inn, and the Fairfield District School. Camp Floyd was established in July 1858 during the Utah War and briefly became the nation’s largest concentration of U.S. troops, reshaping the valley and helping spur a town of about 7,000. Its soldiers guarded overland routes, including those later used by the Pony Express. Renamed Fort Crittenden in 1860, the post was abandoned in 1861 as the Civil War drew troops east. The inn and school preserve Fairfield’s later overland and civic history.
