Sunbeam Peak is one of Wyoming’s highest mountains, a prominent summit in the Wind River Range within Shoshone National Forest. Reaching between 13,446 and 13,486 feet, it ranks as the state’s 13th highest summit. Its north slopes contain Heap Steep Glacier, part of a heavily glaciated alpine landscape shaped by steep rock, snow, and ice. The peak stands within a range known for rugged travel and serious hazards, including bears, bugs, wildfires, adverse snow, and very cold nights. The difficult class 4 and 5 terrain of the Wind River Range has also led to rescues and accidental deaths from falls and rockfall over the years.
