Lake Poinsett State Park is a 132-acre Arkansas state park on Crowley’s Ridge along the western bank of Lake Poinsett in northeastern Arkansas. The lake was created in 1960 when Distress Creek was dammed after a local campaign for a public recreation area began in the 1950s and later gained support from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Dan Portis, and Governor Orval Faubus. A second local effort established the park when Richard Woods and L. K. Collier donated 40 acres and fundraising doubled that gift. Accepted on June 21, 1963, it became Arkansas’s 20th state park and remains focused on fishing, camping, picnicking, boating, trails, and seasonal outdoor programs.
