In 1541 Chief Casqui greeted Hernando de Soto not far from this location at an archeological site along the St. Francis River, which sustained the communities along its banks. The area includes the place where the first known Christian ceremony took place in Arkansas, the Northern Ohio School, and a place where archeologists uncovered a headpot, with these stories all connected by the river.
