Nature
Elk Pond Mountain is a Blue Ridge peak on the border of Nelson and Rockbridge counties in Virginia. Bounded by Maintop Mountain and Rocky Mountain, it lies within the James River watershed, with runoff from different slopes feeding the Piney, Tye, Maury, and related streams before ultimately reaching the Chesapeake Bay. The mountain is part of the George Washington National Forest and is notable both for its place in this broader river system and for the major scenic routes that pass it. The Blue Ridge Parkway crosses its west side at about 3,100 feet, while the Appalachian Trail follows its east side on its long course from Georgia to Maine.
