Anthony House Way Station, Pub and Tavern stood just offshore from Commodore Park as a stage stop between Marysville and the Virginia City Silver Mines. Jacob Van Blaren, a Civil War bugler, stayed at Anthony House for a time and died there in his forties. The proprietors buried him behind the building. Later, during Boise Cascade's negotiations with the historical society, the area around his burial site was named Bugler Park. It is uncertain at what point in Lake Wildwood's history the park's name was changed to Commodore Park.
