Cambridge City was a transportation center, platted in 1836 along the Whitewater River, the Cumberland/National Road, and the Whitewater Canal route. Four steam railroads served the town, and an interurban electric railroad opened in 1903. The Cambridge City Historic District was listed in the National Register in 1991.
