Anoka County Veterans' Memorial was constructed in 1986 for the citizens of Anoka County by authorization of the Anoka County Board of Commissioners. It names county commissioners Albert A. Kordiak, Natalie Haas Steffen, Dan Erhart, Robert Burman, Paul McCarron, Margaret Langfeld, and Nick Cenaiko, along with David L. Torkildson, director of parks and recreation, Patch Erickson, and Madson Watten, Inc., architects. It honors World War II Medal of Honor recipients P.F.C. U.S.M.C. Richard E. Kraus, P.F.C. U.S.M.C. James D. LaBelle, and Pvt. U.S.M.C. Richard K. Sorenson. It was dedicated on July 4, 1977, by Mighty Seven V.F.W. Posts and Auxiliaries of Anoka County, Minnesota, representing posts in Anoka, Blaine, Columbia Heights, Coon Rapids, Fridley, Lino Lakes, and Spring Lake Park. Its erection was carried out with the cooperation of Anoka County commissioners and veterans organizations including the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 987, several American Legion posts, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 470, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 39, WWI Veterans Barracks 2654, and multiple Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in Columbia Heights, Fridley, Ham Lake, Blaine, Lino Lakes, Spring Lake Park, and Coon Rapids.
