The nine point one mile stretch from Mokane to Portland includes an impressive railroad bridge, close views of the Missouri River, and Standing Rock, an uneroded sandstone plug that marks flood levels from as long as a century ago. Shortly beyond the Mokane trailhead, the route parallels Highway 9 to Auxvasse Creek at milepost 122.2, where a two hundred eighty foot long bridge, probably built in the 1920s, spans the creek on piers made of large blocks of cut limestone. Steedman developed with the railroad around 1893 and, like many towns in this section, was named after one of the railroad's Saint Louis investors. Starting at milepost 120.2, the route passes through Reform Conservation Area, which contains four fishing lakes among its recreational features. After crossing Highway 94 at milepost 117.3, it remains separated from the highway for the next six miles and offers a more wilderness like experience, with excellent river views continuing to Portland.
