Lucy Flournoy Roberts, believed to be the first woman of French Huguenot lineage to come to this area, is buried nearby with her husband and 25 dependents. She was a descendant of one of the founders of Manakintown, Va., a Huguenot settlement, and was one of many brave women who left family ties to go with their husbands to a new life in the wilderness.
