Short Woods Park Mound is a Native American earthwork in Cincinnati’s Sayler Park neighborhood, generally attributed to the Adena culture and dating to the pre-Columbian Ohio Valley. This large elliptical mound, about 38 feet high, 175 feet long, and 140 feet wide, served as a burial mound. Excavations uncovered grave goods and the remains of thirty-nine people buried in log tombs, with radiocarbon evidence indicating they lived about 2,000 years before present. The mound preserves evidence of ancient ceremonial and mortuary practices. Once one of many mounds above the Ohio River, it is now among the few surviving examples and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
