At the intersection of Washington and Missouri Streets in Indianapolis on February 11, 1861, President-elect Abraham Lincoln told the citizens of Indiana that if the Union of these states and the liberties of this people were lost, it was their business, and that it was their business to rise up and preserve the Union.
