Shawnee Mountain Ski Area is a family-owned resort in Pennsylvania’s eastern Pocono Mountains near East Stroudsburg. Established in 1975 by developer Karl Hope as a winter complement to his Delaware River businesses, it began with four trails and two lifts and originally placed parking and the main lodge at the summit. French champion Jean-Claude Killy joined that year as ski operations manager and helped shape the resort’s trail, racing, and instruction programs through 1980. As the summit-access model proved impractical, Shawnee developed a base area from 1978 and expanded in the early 1980s. Today it offers 125 acres, 23 trails, tubing, terrain parks, night skiing, extensive facilities, and full snowmaking.
