Junction of Jimtown & Fort Thompson Trails
Transportation
31
This site marked the junction of two old trails: the Jimtown Trail, the first mail route of the James River Valley, and the Fort Thompson Trail, much used during the Black Hills Gold Rush. Near this junction stood Firesteel, a pioneer settlement and trading post from 1874 to 1880. About fifty rods north near the Jimtown Trail was the site of the first frame house in Davison County, built in 1873 as the home of H. C. Greene, and it also served as the Firesteel Postoffice and a popular pioneer meeting place.
