Goose Island State Park is a 321.4-acre Texas state park on the Gulf Coast north of Rockport, between Saint Charles Bay and Aransas Bay. Created from land acquired between 1931 and 1935, it was extensively developed in its early years by Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1801, whose work established much of the park’s basic layout and facilities. Its most famous feature is the Big Tree, a southern live oak believed to be more than 1,000 years old and one of the Texas coast’s best-known trees. Rather than a swimming beach, the park is known for camping, birding, boating, and fishing, and it welcomes about 150,000 visitors annually.
