Deputy U.S. Marshal James Nakedhead

James Nakedhead was a Cherokee Indian policeman who became the first town marshal of Tahlequah, Indian Territory, in 1890 and later served as a jail guard in Muskogee, Indian Territory, in 1893. He was killed at Brush Hill on Feb. 27, 1895, when he charged the hideout of Texas outlaws. The Muskogee Phoenix called him “a brave and fearless officer who gave up his life in the line of duty” on March 2, 1895.
