In 2006, the Rutland arts community joined in the city's first community art project, using trains to celebrate Rutland's history because the railroad stood at the center of that history. The Rutland Railroad dated back to the 1800s and served as the region's main economic engine and principal artery for passengers and freight between Boston, Montreal, and New York. It provided thousands of jobs throughout the Rutland region. One train on display, Carmonica, was created by A. Tedesco Masonry Inc. and donated to Downtown Rutland by the Sabataso Family.
