Smoky Dome
Nature
Smoky Dome is the highest peak in Idaho’s Soldier Mountains, rising 10,095 feet in the Sawtooth National Forest northwest of Fairfield. Towering about 5,000 feet above the surrounding Camas Prairie, it is a dominant landmark and ranks 21st in Idaho by topographic prominence. Its summit offers broad views across nearby ranges and uplands, including the Pioneer, Smoky, and Trinity Mountains and the Bennett Hills, making it a favored destination. A commonly used route approaches from near Soldier Mountain Ski Area along trails 087 and 185 before climbing the ridge to the summit. Nearby lakes, creeks, and neighboring peaks place it within a broader alpine landscape.
