In Murfreesboro, North Carolina, the Brady C. Jefcoat Museum occupies the former Murfreesboro High School and displays a vast Americana collection built around the objects of everyday life from the 1850s to the 1950s. Opened in 1997 by the Murfreesboro Historical Association, it houses the collection assembled over 35 years by Brady C. Jefcoat of Raleigh, who wanted it kept together. More than 18,000 items fill over 17,000 square feet, from household goods and farm tools to phonographs, radios, and specialized equipment. Its significance lies in preserving ordinary material culture and showing how Americans lived, worked, and furnished their homes across a century of change.
