On Sept. 30, 1864, Rebel forces under Gen. Price burned the trestle over Joachim Creek. It was repaired by 138th Ill. Reg. under Col. Goodwin. The first train crossed Oct. 7, 1864. This opened the Iron Mtn. RR for 19 miles south.
