Point Roberts Light serves navigation at Point Roberts, Washington, overlooking the Strait of Georgia from the end of the peninsula that crosses the 49th parallel south from British Columbia into the United States. Instead of a traditional lighthouse tower, the site has a skeletal light within Lighthouse Marine Park, a 21-acre county park. The federal government bought the land in 1908 for a light station, but a full lighthouse was never constructed and the property later passed to Whatcom County for park use. Efforts begun in 2000 to build a proper lighthouse advanced to funded designs by 2014, but the project was canceled in 2018 amid governmental inaction and concerns over future costs.
