In 1924, the Robert Bacon Memorial Children's Library became one of the first libraries in the world specifically dedicated as a children's library. The building and art were privately endowed by Martha Bacon in memory of her husband, Colonel Robert Bacon, U.S. Secretary of State and Ambassador to France under President Theodore Roosevelt.
