Mount Willey is a prominent peak in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, the southernmost and second-highest summit of the Willey Range, and part of the western wall of Crawford Notch with nearby Mount Field. Named for Samuel Willey, Jr., whose family died in a devastating Crawford Notch landslide in 1826, it carries one of the region’s most enduring historical associations. The mountain is also a popular hiking destination, with trails including the Appalachian Trail and the steep Mount Willey Trail. Its upper slopes offer wide views, while its forests, bird habitat, and position on a watershed divide reflect the characteristic natural setting of the higher White Mountains.
