Mount Webster, in New Hampshire’s White Mountains on the border of Coos and Carroll counties, forms the southwestern end of the Presidential Range. Once called Notch Mountain, it was renamed for Daniel Webster, the American statesman who lived from 1782 to 1852. The mountain stands along the western boundary of the Presidential Range–Dry River Wilderness, connecting it to one of the range’s more rugged protected landscapes. Its slopes drain into the Saco River system by direct flow on the west and by way of Silver Cascade and Webster Brook on the north and southeast. The Appalachian Trail crosses its summit along the Presidential ridge.
