John Buckley Square is named in honor of Pittsburg Police Officer John Buckley, who died in the line of duty in a shooting outside the Paloma Café at Second and Black Diamond streets on December 13, 1935. He was a World War I veteran and a recipient of the Pittsburg Police Gold Medal of Valor.
