The Kenwood Drive-In opened on July 31, 1949, featuring the movie El Paso. Construction cost $100,000. Its screen, 71 feet high and 72 feet wide, was billed as the biggest in the South and could withstand 100 mph winds. When it closed in 2009 after 60 years, it was Louisville’s last remaining drive-in. The original marquee was restored in 2013.
