The Federal Hill / Evergreen Barn
Industry
Built circa 1780, the Federal Hill / Evergreen Barn is a well-preserved example of a stone foundation Pennsylvania or Sweitzer Style Barn. It is built into the side of the hill to allow access on both levels. Hand-hewn logs create a cantilevered forebay that provides shelter for the stable on the lower level. The upper level has a central thrashing floor, two side hay mows and overhead racks used to dry tobacco over two hundred years ago.
