John Sleeper’s Log House
Military
4
John Sleeper's log house, built in 1774, stood a few yards south of this stone and was pillaged by Seneca Indians from Nov 12-14, 1778. His grist mill of 1775-78 stood 200 yards N.N.E. from here. Joseph Brant, the Mohawk Chieftain, was often here on his frontier raids and always demanded bread from the Quaker miller and pioneer.
