Industry
Hanford Mill in East Meredith, New York, also known as Kelso Mill, began as a working grist mill and sawmill and survives as both a museum and a national historic district. Built around water power from Kortright Creek, the complex includes a mill race, dammed pond, spillway, and a large four-story wood-frame mill whose core dates to the 1820s and was expanded repeatedly in the late 19th century. The site also preserves a depot with grain storage, a section of New York Central Railroad track, and two railroad bridges, showing how milling, sawing, water power, and transportation were integrated in a remarkably complete rural industrial setting.
