A settlement of German immigrants founded the county's first Catholic church in 1882 as a mission of the Louisville diocese. Under their influence, Prussian agriculture, architecture, and traditions flourished. Because of migration, the parish declined about 1900, and the church was razed in 1925. The parish cemetery is now all that remains of the European colony.
