Bluewater Lake State Park in Prewitt, New Mexico, lies in the Zuni Mountains about 30 miles west of Grants and spans roughly 3,000 acres around the 1,200-acre Bluewater Lake. At about 7,400 feet in elevation, it is a high-mountain recreation area known for fishing, bird watching, and year-round outdoor activity. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, tiger muskie, and channel catfish, and winters are cold enough for the lake to freeze for ice fishing. Birdlife is a major attraction as well, with 68 species recorded as residents or seasonal migrants. Horseback riding is allowed through most of the park, except close to the lake.
