Schoolhouse Straight was the first high-speed straightaway on the 1951-52 circuit and was named for its proximity to the former Joliet School, which remained in use until 1958. The Historic Race Circuits of Elkhart Lake were listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 17, 2006.
