In 1996, the Ovid Historical Society, with financial aid from the Downtown Development Association, purchased a carriage manufactured at the Ovid Carriage Works, later known in Ovid as the Scofield Buggy Company. Members of the 1999-2000 Ovid Historical Society saw the need to create a home for the c. 1888 Daisy Elliptic Top Buggy, leased the site, and began raising the necessary funds by selling bricks and requesting donations. In less than one year from its inception, the project was completed with assistance from the Ovid Downtown Development Association and donations from past and present citizens of the Ovid community.
