Belle Grove was one of the grandest plantation mansions ever built in Louisiana, constructed at the height of prosperity during the 1850s sugar boom in the South. Sixty-two feet tall, it had thirty-foot pillars capped by solid cypress Corinthian capitals six feet high. Henry Howard designed the house for John Andrews, and it was completed in 1857. The home was later owned by the Henry Ware family. Abandoned by 1925, it was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1938 before burning in 1952.
