The Goose Lake meteorite was discovered at Goose Lake in the United States on October 13, 1938, by two hunters from Oakland, California. Because no crater remained where it was found, its impact velocity appears to have been minimal. The following year, the United States National Museum acquired it. It was exhibited at the Golden Gate International Exposition until January 14, 1941, then moved to Washington, D.C. After a period on display in the National Museum’s meteorite hall, it came to be exhibited at the National Museum of Natural History.
